Dryer Vent Cleaning Los Angeles

What is Dryer Vent Cleaning?

Dryer Vent Cleaning is the inspection and cleansing of the dryer vent connected to the dryer machine for clothes. As the dryer removes moisture from damp clothing, lint is created and sucked up through the dryer machine- through the lint filter trap and out through the dryer vent hose. The more and more you use your dryer, the more lint that gets trapped in the lint filter trap and dryer vent hose. While the lint filter trap is easy to take out and empty without professional assistance, cleaning out the dryer vent is quite another task in itself.

How are Dryer Vents Cleaned?

Although cleaning dryer vents is somewhat of a messy process, Green Tech Carpet Care will be sure to leave your house as clean and dust-free as before the dryer vent cleaning.

Before starting the process of cleaning your dryer vents, we will first do a complete assessment of your dryer machine and the hoses and vents connected to it to determine air flow velocity to see how much lint we will need to clean out. Then we will connect an industrial strength blower to the main dryer vent in order to force out any lose dirt and lint. After, we will insert a rotating brush into the vents and into the area below the lint filter trap to clean out the dirt, dust, and lint that have built-up in there. Finally, we will make sure that any dust and lint that has gotten trapped underneath the dryer and around the electrical cords gets removed.

Why do you need Dryer Vent Cleaning?

If your dryer vent is poorly cleaned, several things can happen:

  • Your clothes may not only take longer to dry, but they may also not fully dry
  • Your laundry room becomes more humid than usual or smells burnt
  • The outside of the dryer, your clothes, or both are hotter than usual
  • The exhaust vent flapper at the end of the dryer vent hose does not flap open well during the laundry cycle

All these issues are indications that your dryer vent needs cleaning. In the worst case scenario, one of these issues, a combination, or all, can cause a fire to start. In fact, the two most common causes of household fires, according to a report released by the US Consumer Production Safety Commission, are the buildup of lint in the dryer hose and the lint filter trap.

How often do you need to have your Dryer Vent Cleaned?

How often you should have your dryer vent cleaned depends upon how often you typically use your dryer. If you only do a few loads of laundry a week, getting your dryer vent cleaned once per year should suffice. However, if you do a couple loads of laundry or more per day, or if you have pets that shed a lot or created a lot of dander, it is recommended that you get your dryer vent cleaned every three to six months.

How to Avoid Dryer Vent Problems and Fires

  • Make sure that the lint filter trap is empty before drying each load of clothes
  • Make sure that the exhaust vent flapper is working correctly and that there is sufficient exhaust velocity while it is removing moisture. Check that the exhaust hose is at least four inches in diameter, vents completely outside, and that you don’t see any sparks flying out of it while it is in use. If you see sparks, immediately clean out the hose.
  • Make sure that the inside panel of your dryer is not crusted with lint. To check, unscrew the back panel of the dryer with a screwdriver. Clean out any built-up lint with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Do not leave the dryer on when no one is home or when everyone is sleeping
  • And of course, make sure to get your dryer vent cleaned regularly
